Peled - ARG Review
November / December 2005
[…] This year the
discovery (for me, anyway) was a young Israeli cellist, Amit
Peled. He played the living daylights out of Prokofiev’s Cello
Sonata. How can it sound so musical when it is so wild and rough
on the instrument? How can a player sweep through all of the
composer’s slashing attacks and still make it sound like real
music? How can he not make us feel that it is impossible to
play? But Peled made it sound easy and seemed to be enjoying
himself. He has the flair of the young Rostropovich, and
the mastery of a seasoned player. He has a big tone and a
vibrant sound. I want to hear more from him. There is always
something thrilling going on at Strings in the Mountains. This
cellist took my breath away.
