Programs

Among the many programs offered by GILEE, large delegations of senior Israeli law enforcement officers have visited Georgia, and large delegations from Georgia - and other states - have visited Israel. GILEE has also carried out professional programs that included the Israel Police (IP) Anti-Terrorist Unit commander consulting on Olympic Security; an IP delegation assessing computerized communication; the GBI and the IP exchanging bomb disposal agents in a specialized training program, and crime laboratory scientists exchanging professional knowledge; the IP purchasing a computerized ballistic identification system; Hungarian National Police and TV filming a documentary in Georgia on U.S. law enforcement, UK Olympic security delegation, and specialized briefings.

In June, 1994, the program expanded to include Hungary. Four Hungarian police executives visited Atlanta to study Olympic Games security, the first Georgia delegation visited Hungary in October, 1995, and the Budapest Police Chief visited Atlanta in August, 1996. Thus, GILEE has changed its name to Georgia International Law Enforcement Exchange.  From 1992 to 1996 the program focused on Olympic security issues; after the Centennial Summer Olympic Games, GILEE's mission was fine-tuned to law enforcement executive development and international cooperation.  GILEE's goal is to provide peer-to-peer professional training through the introduction of best practices in order to enhance agency capabilities to better deal with threats to public safety and improve security.  To date, GILEE has carried out 237 programs for 901 law enforcement and other executives in - or from - Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Austria, California, Canada, China, Florida, Georgia, Hungary, Indiana, Israel, Japan, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, United Kingdom, Utah, Virginia, Washington DC, and West Virginia. In addition, it provided 114 special briefings, seminars, and workshops for more than 15,000 public safety and corporate security officials in and from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Finland, Florida, France, Georgia, Greece, Haiti, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Kazakhstan, Mississippi, New Jersey, Tennessee, Texas, The Netherlands, and Uzbekistan. GILEE plans to establish additional programs with other countries and include more states.
